Subway Infill

These pictures show a project in Milton Keynes, UK, where a network of six pedestrian subways was required to be infilled with lightweight foam concrete. The mix specified for this contract was an 800 kg/m3 density, 8 N/mm2 compressive strength at 28 days.

Shuttering was erected at each end of the subways in turn and the foam concrete pumped in to a maximum lift height of one metre. The shuttering was built up in stages with two further lifts of foam concrete pumped in until each subway was completely filled.

Note the services pipelines that have been installed in each of the subways, ready for use in the future by utilities companies.
