Tunnel Infill

This project in Kent UK, near to the giant Bluewater shopping and leisure destination, was to infill a tunnel running between two redundant chalk quarries.

The arched tunnel - built in the 19th century as part of a cement works - measured 90 metres long, 5.0 metres high and 4.5 metres wide.

Given the remote location of the tunnel within the quarry, our mobile on-site batching plant proved to be the ideal method of manufacturing and placing the foam concrete which needed to be pumped some 300 metres away.

The project was completed over seven days using foam concrete with a 350 - 400 kgs/m3 cast density and a 28 day compressive strength of 0.5 N/mm2.
